Shirayuki | Kitchen Cloth

Shirayuki Kitchen Cloths are crafted with care in Nara, Japan and dyed using traditional Japanese methods in various designs and patterns. The front side is a beautiful Yuzen dye, and the back side is a white mosquito net fabric.

For hundreds of years, Nara has been the center of crafting innovation and beauty in Japan, especially with fabrics. Usually a blend of Cotton, Ramie and Rayon, this texture ensures each cloth is durable, absorbent, odor-resistant and soft to touch.

Rayon is a recycled fiber made from wood pulp that biodegrades and returns to nature. It has better moisture absorption and release properties than cotton or linen, and is less likely to retain odors, making it ideal for dish towels.

The beautiful patterns are dyed into the cloth using the Yuzen technique, named for its creator, Yuzen-sai Miyazaki, a 17th century fan surface painting artist in Kyoto. This traditional dyeing technique has been used in all manners of Japanese textile production ever since.

Material: 85% Rayon, 15% Cotton

Size: 30cm x 40cm (will shrink about 15% after washing)

For best care: Hand wash in warm water before use to remove any excess starch. Processed to prevent colour fading. Do not tumble dry. Iron at a low temperature.
